WHAT IS A PEDIATRIC DENTIST?

Pediatric Dentists take additional two to three years to focus exclusively on the oral health, growth and development of children. Just like a pediatrician is a doctor specific for children, a pediatric dentist is a dentist specific for children and adolescents.

Dr. John is specifically trained and certified as a pediatric dentist to provide the highest quality oral health care for ages 18 and under.

WHAT makes a PEDIATRIC DENTIST Different?

Children often find dentist visits intimidating, especially in traditional, quiet dental offices that aren’t designed with kids in mind. In contrast, pediatric dental offices like ours are fun, colorful, and filled with bright decor, lively music, and engaging distractions like play areas, books, and screens.

Our staff use friendly, playful language and gentle techniques to ensure your kids feel at ease. With advanced, child-friendly technology and non-invasive treatments, our office helps to transform the dental visit into an enjoyable adventure, fostering a positive attitude toward dental care that lasts a lifetime.

WHY IS BOARD CERTIFICATION IMPORTANT?

The best Pediatric Dentists are certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD). The ABPD board certification indicates that a pediatric dentist has successfully completed accredited training and a voluntary 2-part examination process designed to continually validate the knowledge, skills, and experience requisite to the delivery of quality patient care.

Dentists certified through the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD) hold the highest possible credentials within the field of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. John strives to provide the best oral care for your child and this board certification is a testament to his dedication.

Your family’s dental trail guide.

At Pisgah Pediatric Dentistry, we know how important it is to trust your kid’s dentist. Our team takes a fun, honest, and kid-centric approach to making every visit an exciting adventure. Since dental decay progresses faster, in baby teeth, we encourage heading out on your dental journey early, ideally by your child’s first birthday.

Below are the services we offer:

PREVENTATIVE services:

It’s good to be prepared for any adventure. The health of your little one’s teeth and gums are no different! Preventive oral care starts at infancy and continues into their daily life routine. We also offer guidance about diet, eating habits, and caring for teeth and gums at each visit.

Setting up your child for a lifetime of happy, healthy smiles starts early! We’re your guide on this exciting journey. Our dental checkups make sure your tiny adventurer’s teeth and gums are in prime condition, even before their first tooth appears.

Our mission is to protect your child’s teeth and keep their smiles as bright as a mountain sunrise! Regular checkups keep their smiles sparkling and healthy. Just like seeing their pediatrician, visiting the dentist regularly ensures their teeth are in tip-top shape.

Fluoride is like a protective outer shell for your child’s teeth, helping to prevent cavities. This straightforward, non-invasive treatment is applied right in the dental office and strengthens their teeth. We apply it twice a year during routine cleanings.

Think of sealants as a rain jacket, but for your teeth. These tooth-colored materials cover the grooves and crevices of your molars, helping to shield them from dental decay (cavities). Kids usually get these protective coatings around age 6 on their first permanent molars and around age 12 on their second set.

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is a non-invasive treatment option for small cavities, using a topical medicine that is painted on the tooth without needing the “drill and fill” approach. This is a great option for young kids since it’s quick, easy, and painless. It halts about 80% of cavities when applied twice a year. However, it does permanently stain the teeth and isn’t suitable for deep cavities.

Restorative services:

Even the boldest explorers need a bit of help to keep their smiles shining bright. Stay ready for any new adventure! Our restorative services are here to ensure your child’s teeth stay strong and healthy.

Composites are like the repair kits for your teeth, restoring them to their original structure after they’ve been damaged by cavities. When cavities are small and don’t reach the nerve of the tooth, we can rebuild the tooth with composite material that matches the tooth color.

When cavities create significant damage, a filling might not be enough to restore the tooth’s strength. A crown is like a solid piece of gear that ensures the tooth stays strong and ready for the next challenge.

When a cavity reaches the nerve of the tooth, the only way to keep it healthy is by performing a pulpotomy. This procedure is straightforward and can be done in the same setting as fillings and other treatments.

Nowadays, there are plenty of ways to stop decay without the need for drilling or local anesthetics. Non-drill methods like SDF applications, SMART (Silver Modified Atraumatic Restorative Treatment) that blends SDF with Glass Ionomer Cements, and Hall crowns help keep teeth in great shape while keeping things easy and stress-free.

Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) available for in office treatment or for those in need of more complex care. Dr. John is credentialed to provide care under general anesthesia in a hospital.
